Relocation can be a stressful process for those involved. If you’re a relocation company you want to ensure that your clients are happy and the service you provide is of the highest standard. If you’re an organisation needing to relocate employees you want to make the transition is as easy as possible, and that your staff are happy with their temporary home. This blog discusses some areas  of property maintenance you can focus on to reduce the stress of relocation.

Inspections and basic amenities
It is always advantageous to carry out a full property inspection before moving in relocation clients, particularly if the property in question is unoccupied for a prolonged period of time. The first port of call should always be to ensure that all the basic amenities are working (i.e. plumbing, heating and appliances), and that the property is safe.

Proactive property maintenance
Regular maintenance will go a long way in preventing property damage. However, it is also important to think proactively about issues which could cause additional stress to relocation clients. A full property inspection should highlight all areas which are worse for wear, allowing you to deal with them before tenants move in. For example, a broken kitchen drawer may take a short period of time to repair but the additional hassle of having workmen in their home whilst in the process of settling in can be quite strenuous on tenants.

Provide a clean and homely environment
In our last blog we discussed the importance of a thorough end of tenancy clean to ensure no traces of previous occupants are left behind. However, if the property has been untenanted for a while the interior may require an additional light clean (removing dust and cobwebs) before tenants move in and air fresheners put in place to make the property more welcoming. It can also be beneficial to offer regular cleaning services, taking some of the pressure off the tenant and helping them have a more relaxing experience once they’ve moved in.

Ensure outdoor areas are fit for the client
It is essential to ensure the exterior of the property is maintained, including any garden or patio areas, balconies or terraces. As well as basic seasonal garden maintenance (discussed in our blog here) it is important to take into consideration the needs of individual clients, such as installing safety grates on ponds should the family relocating have young children.

Help clients feel at home
Offering regular cleaning services can help alleviate some pressure on relocation clients. Depending on the type and duration of the relocation it can also be worth considering adding an additional regular linen service for added ease. With GMC’s regular cleaning and optional linen services the cleaner for each property is consistent, lessening tenants fears associated with having unfamiliar people in their home. Additionally, in order to fit with individual schedules and time constraints of tenants the cleaning services are fully flexible and adaptable to individual property needs.
