Now that spring is finally on its way it is time for all you landlords and property managers out there to carry out a thorough spring clean of your property portfolios. This benefits you by maintaining your property investment. It also benefits the tenant as deep cleaning helps to reduce germs and remove dust from the home creating a healthier and more comfortable environment. Spring cleaning also gives the perfect opportunity to identify any other maintenance issues that may need attending to. This blog shares our property spring cleaning advice.
As part of a spring clean it’s important to consider the following areas:

Deep cleaning of kitchens
The kitchen and bathrooms are two areas that have the most significant impact on the desirability of a property. Their cleanliness will contribute not just for viewings but also to the overall satisfaction of the new occupants once they move in. Professional cleaning will help remove any build-up of dirt and grime that is both unpleasant for tenants and can damage surfaces and appliances such as ovens or microwaves. Make sure cupboards, tiles and splash backs are de greased and thoroughly cleaned and all appliances are deep cleaned.

Deep cleaning of bathrooms

As described above, with viewings for prospective tenants, appearance is everything – no one wants to see a stained toilet or grubby grouting! For properties in hard water areas special attention needs to be given to calcification on sanitaryware, glass screens and cubicles and tiling. Bathrooms need to be deep cleaned especially shower cubicles and tiling and left sparkling and fresh.

Checking drains
Check all sinks, basins, baths and showers are draining properly. Slowing down of water drainage is usually caused by a build up of limescale or fat deposits. Dealing with blocked drains helps prevent more serious plumbing issues and the subsequent inconvenience caused for both the Landlord and future tenants.

Cleaning of flooring
Vacuuming and mopping of flooring is an essential part of regular cleaning. When it comes to a spring cleaning it’s important to identify any stains (particularly on carpets) which will require either spot cleaning, or a full carpet clean. Freshen up tired carpets with a professional steam clean. Wooden and marble flooring may require specialist cleaning products.

Dusting and paying attention to details
When moving into a new property, tenants don’t want to be reminded of previous occupants. Ensure all rubbish and personal items have been disposed of. As well as removing cobwebs and cleaning windows as part of the spring clean, it is important to make sure particular attention is made to cleaning window sills, skirting boards, door frames and tops and insides of cupboards.
